A glance at the titles of the individual modules (click the ‘Snapshot’ tab above) shows you just what this fantastic course is about. It also provides detailed advice and information to help you properly support children’s learning and development.
The teaching and assessment of this course integrates the 4 basic themes of EYFS, which are as follows:
A unique child
Positive relationships
Enabling environments
Learning and development
These 4 themes, which underpin the principles of EYFS and guide the work of all early years practitioners, form the backbone of the course delivery, and are then further broken down into “bite sized chunks” to make study and continuous progress as easy and logical as possible. This approach, also enable students and practitioners to reflect on their own practice. It gives them the opportunity to explore ways of enhancing the way they deliver the framework and improve its effectiveness.
One of the key benefits of studying with Distance Learning Plus is that you get access to your full course materials online once you enrol.
You’ll receive access to our Online Student Community where you’ll be able to view your course materials, submit your work, contact your tutor, and interact with other learners via the online forums.
A reasonable level of literacy is required, but there are no entry restrictions.
You just need a keen interest in the subject, and will ideally have studied the subject or ancillary disciplines at a lower level if you want to progress quickly.

Although the materials are comprehensive and informative, we do expect you to carry out your own investigations. After all, if you are not prepared to do your own research, you should be asking yourself if this is the right subject choice for you!
Although, there are no entry requirements, you do need a reasonable level of literacy to be able to both understand the concepts introduced, and get the most out of the materials.
This is a non-regulated qualification which is endorsed by Focus Awards under the FQP scheme. They are not nationally recognised qualifications; on successful completion of your studies you will receive a Focus Awards Certificate of Achievement and a certificate of completion from Distance Learning Plus.
Focus Awards is regulated as an Awarding Organisation by Ofqual, the qualification regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Non-regulated qualifications endorsed under the FQP scheme are ideal for professionals required to demonstrate commitment to CPD (Continuous Professional Development), and for those wanting to gain specialist knowledge of a particular subject.
I had been working as a manager in the retail sector for a number of years; when I had my first child, I did not feel ready to go back to that sort of working environment as I always felt very stressed and often worked long hours. I wanted to be able to spend time at home with my daughter and husband but I was unsure what direction to go in. I considered starting my own business but struggled to pin down an idea.
I loved being at home with my daughter, and it was my husband who suggested that I become a childminder. It was ideal because I was already at home with my daughter and we had plenty of space.
I spoke to my local authority about what I needed to do. They explained that I needed to undertake an introductory childcare course (some local authorities require you to complete a course that they run themselves), and that I would also need to do a paediatric first aid course. I completed both of these and was able to apply for registration as a childminder with OfSTED.
The hours you work are very much set by you, but they would need to fit in with the needs of parents. Some childminders also offer weekend and overnight care for children whose parents who work shifts or unsociable hours.
Childminders charge on average between £3.63 – £5.42 an hour per child, although this also depends on the area of the country you work in.
You would need to make arrangements for paying tax, insurance and to pay for costs such as toys, equipment and meals. There are start-up grants available in some areas to help with these costs.
We have a number of innovative subscription plans available to sort all budgets and support needs.
Simply choose your course and subscription package; your first payment will be taken by credit or debit card when you enrol, with subsequent payments due by monthly direct debit until you complete your studies
