It was not until I started college that I realised I wanted to be a journalist. I had taken Media as an A-level as it combined well with my English Language A-level. I began to enjoy media more than any of my other A-Levels, a journalism project in particular where I decided I would take this up at university level to become a journalist.
Journalists meet new people every day. This would be done by interviewing people for new storylines where new contacts would be made. Journalists would be expected to investigate new stories and research this and think of follow up stories to this. They may be required to attend press conferences and come up with new ideas and features for stories.
There are two routes into journalism. A pre-entry route would be done on completion of college where you would have taken an A-level in journalism or something similar to move into employment where you would apply as a trainee.
The direct route is moving straight into employment where you would be put on a traineeship. Some employers may accept GCSE’s and A-levels, where other may expect you to have a degree.
